W.H. Gittins & Sons
I even had time left to play cricket in the evening!
Meet Sam Dutton and Steven Forbes from W.H. Gittins & Sons in the United Kingdom. Sam plays a pivotal role in overseeing key operations, including the digester, the ground source system, the drying floors and solar initiatives. The integration of the Condor Vanguard into their farming practices has delivered remarkable results, reflecting the innovative direction led by Sam and the team.
Their decision to unify operations on a single platform has significantly streamlined processes. The Condor Vanguard communicates seamlessly with the GreenStar system via the Solsteer module, centralising data and enabling comprehensive analysis of yield and spray maps. This integration supports informed decision making and helps optimise every aspect of operations at W.H. Gittins & Sons.
Optimizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness
One of the key decisions made by the team was to opt for 25 cm nozzle spacing to improve spray coverage and integrate Agrifac’s PWFM system, StrictSprayPlus, which provides individual nozzle control. This high level of precision has significantly reduced overlap on headlands, resulting in substantial savings.
In addition, the Condor Vanguard delivers a 15% reduction in fuel consumption per hour compared to their previous equipment, effectively lowering the cost per hectare and making the investment increasingly cost effective over time.
“From a business perspective, the Condor Vanguard has been a game changer. It has given us the confidence to manage more acreage without worrying about spraying delays,” says Sam. The machine’s standout performance, combined with operator comfort, speed, power and boom levelling, makes it a clear leader in its class.
Steven Forbes, head sprayer operator at W.H. Gittins & Sons, agrees. Managing approximately 1,600 hectares, he considers the Condor Vanguard nothing short of exceptional. Since its acquisition, the machine has performed flawlessly. Spraying a wide range of cereal and forage crops for their anaerobic digestion (AD) plant, Steven particularly values the machine’s efficiency, especially when managing the frequent washouts required between crop types.
Boosting efficiency and work-life balance
The decision to invest in Agrifac was driven by two key factors: the in house PWFM system, StrictSprayPlus, and the proximity of a trusted local dealer, ensuring outstanding support and fast issue resolution. For Steven Forbes, the impact of the Condor Vanguard has been transformative. Where he once averaged 100 to 120 hectares a day, he now comfortably covers 160 hectares by mid afternoon, giving him the freedom to enjoy more personal time. “I even had time left to play cricket in the evening!” he shared.
Comfort is another standout feature of the Condor Vanguard. Even in challenging weather and across rough tramlines, the machine delivers a smooth, almost floating ride. Easy pressure adjustment and 25 cm nozzle spacing ensure excellent coverage and cleaner crops.
Transporting the machine across extreme terrain is effortless, thanks to the 320 hp engine, which maintains speed and power even on steep climbs. Maintenance is equally efficient, with an intuitive on screen cleaning system that simplifies washouts between crop changes, saving valuable time and effort.
